Moriah Formica in the new album of Michael Sweet (STRYPER )
TOP ROCK NEWS is always looking for new talent, this time we meet with an artist who will surely give a lot of talk, and in fact is already doing so right now.
His name is: Moriah Formica
We heard of it when listening to a track from the new album by Michael Sweet (Artist who has been in the past double gold album and platinum disc), and yes, it is the same as the well-known band STRYPER icon of the 80’s.
With “Can not take this life” Moriah participates in a song where it demonstrates all his talent and something that is necessary to think that he is barely 16 years old.
So we decided to talk to Moriah and meet her a little more
TRN: Hi Moria, we love to talk to you and share your talent with our audience, we want your story, that love of music, especially we have read that you refuse to do pop music and prefer rock as your favorite style (which we love)
Moriah: Well thank you for having me and giving me a chance to say hi to everyone. As long as I can remember I’ve loved music. My parents used to put me to sleep when I was a baby in one of those swings and would always play a CD of guitar by the sea, piano by the sea or flute by the sea so I think that did something for me. As far as pop and other music, I have nothing personal against any of it and actually like some of it but my passion has always been rock n roll and will always be rock n roll.
TRN: always the question that can not be missed and the favorite of the public is
“What are your influences” but it seems a bit cliché .. we prefer to be named 3 artists and why they have impacted and reflected in your musical creation
Moriah: The 3 biggest musical influences in my life are Aerosmith, Evanescence and Halestorm. Aerosmith was my first love. I became obsessed with them when I was 6 and know everything about them, everything possible. People call my room Aeroville because it’s pretty much all Aerosmith. The color is the same exact pink colors from their album Pink. They haven’t shaped my writing in any way I don’t think but they gave me my love for rock n roll so maybe somehow they have an impact although I don’t hear any of that in my actual music. Evanescence and Halestorm were my favorite bands by the time I hit 10-11 years old and they kind of influenced my writing. I was drawn to the great female vocals with heavy guitars and crushing drums. I think if you listen to my songs you will hear both Evanescence and Halestorm. If you hear me sing you may hear a little Amy Lee and Lzzy Hale and maybe a little Ann Wilson. At least that’s what I’ve been told.
TRN: We discover your work with the song “Can not take this life” that appears in the new album by Michael Sweet – ONE SIDED WAR, tell us about your experience working with Michael and how you came to not only record with him, .
Moriah: I actually opened for Michael Sweet a couple of years ago. He was doing an acoustic show at this place near my house called Chrome Food & Spirits. I was fortunate enough to be able to open for him and he was pretty impressed. We talked a little after his set and my producer exchanged information with his wife Lisa. A short time after that he reached out to ask if I’d be interested in singing a song on his solo album and I was like let me think about that for a second….YES ha ha. He came out to my producer Paul Benedetti’s studio to work with us on how I should sing it and we just kind of connected. I then asked him if he wouldn’t mind maybe coming out and doing some guitar work and harmonies on one of my songs Bring It On and he did. So he and Lisa Sweet have been so nice and giving to me and they are just the best.
TRN: The music business is very competitive and difficult, but it seems that you feel comfortable working on it, your solo album is really very good, tell us about your future plans as you want it to be your career in the next few years
Moriah: Well, the songs on my EP I wrote from 5th-8th grade. I’m in 11th now so I have lots of songs I want to record and just keep putting out music and hopefully touring and playing cool shows. I’m hoping that I might be able to co-write with some really talented people also. I’ve actually been working with some people of different genres and writing together making cool stuff. Basically I don’t have a label so I’m just gonna do what I want to do, write what I want to write and play what I want to play ha ha.
TRN: It is very difficult to capture the attention of the international media and you have achieved it very well, is there a music producer behind this or a manager designing your media strategy ??
Moriah: My producer is Paul Benedetti from Modern Day Music in Clifton Park, New York. He’s really done a lot of work besides producing. My parents manage me and work really hard every day just trying to get my name out there. The truth is much of my success internationally is due to Michael Sweet and I am very thankful.
TRN: You wrote your first song at age 11 and just 5 years later you play with ROCK icons and release your new “SLAVE” video clip which is part of your debut EP “BRING IT ON” that tells us about all this experience
Moriah: I’ve worked really hard and so has everyone around me. Although I literally just turned 16 I’ve been doing this for a while. I started with open mic’s when I was 9 then I came across my producer Paul Benedetti’s Modern Day Music Rock School. There I was able to join a band with other kids and we would learn songs and then play a show after the session. I did that for a few years and really learned a lot. My band coach was Ben Zoleski and he brought a lot of fun to the performance and he still helps me to this day as does my vocal coach Lesley O’Donnell. We’ve all been a team for 6 years now. Things haven’t happened over night like I hoped but we keep working and things keep opening up for us so it’s been a really cool experience. Every day I come home from school I wonder what my parents are going to tell me . Like hey guess who messaged you today or guess who emailed or guess what show you’re going to do. It’s become very exciting for me.
TRN: To bid farewell you want to send a message to all our public that will now be yours and will be aware of the progress of your career
MORIAH: Yeah, I want to say thank you for all of you who support me and my music. For those of you who don’t really know me just understand that I want to keep rock alive and bring it back to the mainstream. I feel like I’m one of the only kids in my entire big school that doesn’t like pop or rap. I hope you will all get behind me and like my social media, share my stuff and talk about me so eventually labels and radio stations won’t be able to ignore me any longer because I don’t make “commercial” music.
TRN: And this is an artist who knows very well what he wants and where he wants to get, it will be a discovery that brings you top rock news in a short time we will know, just do not miss anything from the work of MORIAH FORMICA, Here we invite you to qu Follow her on social networks … you will not be disappointed !!!
